{the Purge} in Progress!

Have you heard about {the Purge} hosted by Rachel at Stitched in Color?  I love the idea of a good purge of all the lovely bits and pieces that have accumulated over time.  Some are leftover pieces from projects that I worked on, others pieces were sale fabrics that I just could not resist or were purchased for projects that have yet to be started.  Have you ever done that?  Fallen in love with fabric only to get busy and fall out of love with it?!  I may have a few instances of that in my stash...  So, I decided to jump in a do a little purging myself.

My first purge project tackles two birds with one stone.  Great friends of ours have decided to move back to Ohio to be close to family.  I wanted to send them off with a gift that would make them both smile and remember all the good times we spent together.  So, rather than purchase new fabric I turned to my stash to see what I could come up with.  I decided to make pillow covers and appliqued the state of Virginia on one, since this is where we all met, and Michigan on the other since that is where my husband and I are from.  On the back, I added a little humor with mustache prints.  Facial hair poses a bit of an inside joke in our circle of friends.  I just love how they turned out and so did our friends.

What do you think?
